MULTIPLE voice/vision – DIORAMATIZED #01

MULTIPLEvoicevisionRationale

MULTIPLE voice/vision is a continuation of Rudi Knoops’s research on the dialogue between the multi-layered texture of music and the audiovisual form. It is a stepwise approach of where and how ‘remediation’ – as defined by Bolter & Grusin (1999) – occurs in this interaction between the audiovisual form and musical polyphony. The series of miniature design exploration in the first phase of the project is named DIORAMATIZED #

Objectives

We hope to gain understanding in how processes of ‘remediation’ work, which influence they exert both on the creation of the experimental audiovisual form and on the creation of a new composition. In the final phase of the project we’ll investigate the ‘remediating’ role of the new composition in the re-experience of the music of Bach – the start of the project.

Activities

In phase 1 of MULTIPLE voice/vision we will be building some miniature design explorations in preparation of the first full-scale installation of MULTIPLE voice/vision in AMUZ & M (October 2011). DIORAMATIZED #01 is the first of these design explorations, and the result of a working period in FLACC: multiple auditory and visual materials – output from a test recording in AMUZ – are input for computer- and hardware based perspectival constructions.

Results

DIORAMATIZED #01 stages a deconstruction of classical contrapuntal music in a miniature interactive media setting. The use of the word ‘miniature’ is relative of course, as the audiovisual object DIORAMATIZED #01 has a size of about 1.50 (width) x 1.50 (length) x 3.00 (height) (in metres).
