Dodesign

dodesign

DoDesign was created in late 2009 as a tool to help designers search for the right materials or techniques in the design process. Design Platform Limburg and the research institute MAD-research sought financial support from the European Fund for regional Development to get DoDesign up and running. Firstly, the research project will analyse and evaluate various search strategies used by designers (through workshops and other means) and secondly, DoDesign will develop a model for a true database, one that brings together materials, techniques and specific design examples.

It is hardly illogical that the project focuses on limburg. One of the explanations is that resources from limburg should bring rewards for limburg, but this is not the only one. The project is articularly ambitious and the researchers are only too aware of this. Biting off more than they can chew could put the project in danger. Hence, they will collate only materials and techniques from the region of limburg in the initial phase.

The seed for the project lay in the doctoral research of Karen Wuytens, the limburg-based Master Jeweller, admitted to the degree of doctor on the strength of a thesis with the melodious title of ‘Study of a reflective design model to support and describe the process of designing jewellery and objects in all their diversity’.
