Under the LSM program (Limburg Sterk Merk: Limburg strong brand), the new joint MAD-faculty in Hasselt (PHL) and Genk (MDA) (Belgium) obtained substantial fundings in order to stimulate the research at PHL and MDA through doctoral fellowships, starting next academic year 2010-11. In total it concerns 7 full-time PhD-fellowships for four years in arts & design research.

The proposed project and research question of the applicant will have to match the theme of one of the MAD-faculty research groups: Image & Word, Play&Game, Social Spaces and Art|Object & Design (more information about our researhc group under ‘About’). In addition, there has to be a potential for upgrading the Limburg region. 

Specifically we are looking for seven excellent and motivated PhD students on a scholarship for four years.They have to perform an artistic / design-based research and have to defendi it to a relevant jury. Additional requirements placed upon the projects are

1. connecting it to the general research policies and long-range planning that were made in Research and Research MAD-
2. a potential enhancement in the Limburg region (mainly economic but also cultural/social).

This call is addressed to graduate masters students (study audiovisual and visual arts, product design).
