At the occasion of Art Brussels last spring (April 2010), the contemporary jewelry art gallery Caroline Van Hoek showed part of Hannah Joris’ installation of 99 brooches in potato and iron from her M.A. graduation project (Konstfack, Stockholm, 2009) called “Our vulnerable position”. French editor Élisabeth Paillié visited the exhibition and contributed a brief article to the design magazine Intramuros (n°149, pg. 10).
“TALENTE is a showcase and competition for newcomers under thirty-five who work in design and technology. The focus of the competition is on work that shines through its formal and technical originality and technical perfection, and is ahead of its time. It takes place as a special show during the International Trade Fair for the Skilled Trades in Munich each year.” Talente takes place simultaneously with Schmuck, a yearly contemporary jewelry art exhibition.
Dries will be showing some silver pieces that he made for his master-project (2009-2010).
“My project ‘destrfunction’ is about the transformation of objects in artistically expressive work. I do this by reinterpreting the functional elements within every object and searching for the moment when function can become the subject and concept of the objects. The works represent the obstinate recognition of certain shapes with their function and the destructive impact that a shift or change of function can bring. Function as subject and source of inspiration. The result is a deceptive and confusing visualisation of functionless objects.”
