Masterprojects Object & Jewellery
Right from the beginning, the teaching staff of the Masterclass Object & Jewellery and the Masterstudio Art/Object & Design had the feeling that it would be an important academic year with strong masterprojects. The report of the Wanatoe-jury agreed upon this intuitive feeling: the masterclass was regarded as the most interesting and most research-based studio, one of the best in Flanders at the moment.
Jill Ryckaert, with her jewellery evolving out of a subjective interpretation of ‘the tree of life’ from Darwin, is granted the Wanatoe-price and is nominated for the Marzee International Graduation Show.

Eline Fransen grants motion a central place within her jewellery. Also the game-component is important in her work, causing an interesting interaction between the people who wear her jewellery, the ones looking at it, and the jewellery itself.

Ine Theuwissen develops jewellery where the people, wearing the jewellery, become co-creator. This kind of interaction makes sure that the final view upon her jewellery is never the same.

PhD fellowship for MAD-faculty Research Groups
Under the LSM program (Limburg Sterk Merk: Limburg strong brand), the new joint MAD-faculty in Hasselt (PHL) and Genk (MDA) (Belgium) obtained substantial fundings in order to stimulate the research at PHL and MDA through doctoral fellowships, starting next academic year 2010-11. In total it concerns 7 full-time PhD-fellowships for four years in arts & design research.
The proposed project and research question of the applicant will have to match the theme of one of the MAD-faculty research groups: Image & Word, Play&Game, Social Spaces and Art|Object & Design (more information about our researhc group under ‘About’). In addition, there has to be a potential for upgrading the Limburg region.
Specifically we are looking for seven excellent and motivated PhD students on a scholarship for four years. They have to perform an artistic / design-based research and have to defendi it to a relevant jury. Additional requirements placed upon the projects are
- connecting it to the general research policies and long-range planning that were made in Research and Research MAD-
- a potential enhancement in the Limburg region (mainly economic but also cultural/social).
Attached information files give a brief description of both this research policies (MAD-Research) as well as some relevant initiatives in the Limburg region.
Additionally, this information file also includes information on how a project can be submitted:
- Presentation only by domain-specific research coordinators MAD -Research
- Presentation of the projects through two separate templates.
Dead-line submission: September 15, 2010
This call is addressed to graduate masters students (study audiovisual and visual arts, product design).
